Our biggest project yet to save more lives

May 1, 2018

SACH is embarking on its biggest project yet, to build an International Pediatric Cardiac Center (IPCC) at the Wolfson Medical Center (WMC), which will serve as a Children’s Hospital.

The IPCC will be a worldwide center of competence in pediatric cardiac care with international recognition in pediatric cardiac treatment, training and research. It will serve as a model for other SACH centers of competence in developing countries.

The existing pediatric cardiac care facilities at the WMC are stretched to the limit and beyond, they are scattered throughout the hospital.

The WMC serves a catchment area of half a million people, principally in disadvantaged areas of Southern Tel Aviv, Holon, Bat Yam and Jaffa. It is almost entirely dependent on government support and is regarded as one of Israel’s financially poorer hospitals, reflected in the general poor quality of its equipment and infrastructure. In addition, the WMC is the sole provider of pediatric heart treatment for 250 children from developing countries brought to Israel by SACH every year.

This new state of the art child oriented medical facility will house all of the infrastructure and equipment needed to perform pediatric heart surgeries, including all pre and post-operative care. It will guarantee that SACH will be able to continue with its medical mission for at least the next 20 years and will allow the WMC to better serve its local catchment population.

The IPCC will allow SACH to save more children's lives and strengthen SACH’s mission to ensure that the over 5.5 million children in developing countries with heart disease will have access to the medical care they need to survive and thrive.

Given the existing internationally recognized expertise of the SACH medical staff in the field of pediatric cardiac care and the unique international patient pool drawn from four continents and 50 countries, the facility will become a world class internationally recognized pediatric heart center providing lifesaving care to local children as well as children from developing countries throughout the world.

TOTAL COST

Upon completion the Children’s Hospital and IPCC will contain 1400 square meters per floor on five floors, including a two floor atrium lobby.

The total cost for constructing and equipping the new center is estimated at $35 million.

Phase One

Phase 1 involves constructing the shell of the entire 5-floor building, the total construction and equipping of the ground floor pediatric ICU and lobby; the first floor pediatric heart institute, mechanical room, family resting rooms and atrium entrance lobby on the ground and first and second floors. The first phase will also include the construction of the shell of the basement operating rooms and shell of the departments on the 4th and 5th floors;; as well as landscaping for the overall Center, which would yield to the public eye a complete and fully functioning facility.

The first phase is estimated at $17 million and so far SACH has commitments from local and international donors for $15 million.

Phase Two

Phase two will include the total construction and equipping of the basement operating rooms, the pediatric department on the 4th floor and the pediatric surgery department on the 5th floor.

SACH is currently seeking additional supporters for this project. Naming and dedication opportunities are available upon request.
