Room Dedication in Memory of Hannah and Itzik Schachner

October 8, 2015

In a moving ceremony, Professor Arie Schachner, President of Save a Child’s Heart dedicated a room in the Save A Child’s Heart Children’s Home in the memory of his parents Hannah and Itzik Schachner.

Professor Schachner spoke about his parents who were Holocaust survivors from Poland, and had a deep love and appreciation for children. He was accompanied by his daughter Calanit, who came to Israel from London as a delegate of the Save a Child’s Heart UK, and his son, Tzachi. It was very meaningful for the family as well as for all onlookers. The event was attended by Save a Child’s Heart Board Members and guests from Israel and abroad.

Professor Schachner was Dr. Ami Cohen‘s friend and mentor at the Wolfson Medical Center in 1995. He embraced Dr. Cohen‘s mission of treating children from developing countries and has been one of the guiding forces behind SACH since its inception. The professor founded the Department of Cardiotheracic Surgery at the Wolfson Medical Center in 1991 and led it until he retired in 2007. He was a teacher and mentor to Dr. Lior Sasson, SACH‘s chief surgeon, who has, along with the rest of the team at the Wolfson Medical Center, dedicated his time to saving children from developing countries, as well as from his homeland. The professor‘s involvement in SACH did not end when he retired, and last year he was elected as the organization‘s president.
